Commerce is one of the nation's fastest growing financial services retailers. Since its inception in 1973, Commerce has expanded substantially since opening its first store 34 years ago in Marlton, New Jersey. Today, the Commerce network comprises nearly 450 convenient stores and over 15,000 employees throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington, DC, Virginia, Maryland & Southeast Florida.

Developing Design Concepts

Back in August of 1995, Commerce began a search for a long-term technology partner and they wanted to put several companies through a series of “hurdles” to see who could impress them with their technical expertise, design skill as well as understanding of critical scope and specification processes. As part of this process, WWWC was asked to create three design concepts: one that would “fit” with the existing design, one that would be a big move forward and one that would be a radical departure. Commerce didn’t give us much direction other than to “WOW” us. They really wanted to see how we would interpret the design challenges.

We then talked through the different concepts and Commerce gave us some additional direction about the kinds of things they would want in the eventual “final” version. We came back to them with a fully animated version of the second concept.
