Company Profile
Beneficial Bank, a full service bank, has been serving the Delaware Valley community since 1853. Headquartered in Philadelphia PA, Beneficial Bank has 70 neighborhood branches and provides a modern work environment for over 1,000 employees.
Challenge
Beneficial Bank’s intranet was primarily made up of static HTML files. The challenge with static HTML files is that editing them requires in depth knowledge of writing HTML. This prevented department managers from being able to maintain their own department’s content. Another downside of Beneficial’s intranet was that its look and feel had not kept pace with the bank’s branding so looked out of synch with the public web site and the bank’s marketing materials.
Beneficial’s intranet had grown quite large over the years, and its maintenance was the responsibility of a single employee. It was such a manual process that the task of teaching others to maintain it was viewed as too time consuming and never initiated.
Another challenge was finding information in the intranet because the content was not searchable.
Solution
Beneficial Bank’s senior management researched various intranet solutions and decided to deploy Microsoft’s SharePoint server. As SharePoint experts, we were chosen to customize the intranet to meet the bank’s needs.
We began by setting up the SharePoint portal server and migrating all of the bank’s existing intranet content to SharePoint. Taking advantage of SharePoint’s built in security, content management and document management features we were able to establish sites specific to each department. This allowed department managers to maintain their own intranet content without the need to know HTML or other programming technologies. With SharePoint, Beneficial Bank’s employees now had the added capability to quickly search and retrieve documents using SharePoint’s built-in search tools.
